Slumber, Labor

Woke up dreaming about work. This is happening too often.

At this moment in my life, there is nothing else. All tasks are in service to the annual review. All activities are to curry me from labor to labor. Too tired to dream bigger.

Happy Monday, I guess.

Fantaxtic Four

On this day, April 15, Tax Day (for those who celebrate), I’m pleased to report that I got as close to the golden $0 as possible. Thanks to my W4 adjustments last year, I dialed it in and this year I owed only $4. That’s correct. Four. Dollars.

This means the Feds got only what was coming to them when it was due to them, and not a penny more. I didn’t give them extra throughout the year to go hog-wild with before they paid it back. And I didn’t leave myself with a payment surprise at the last minute.

I feel proud of myself.

Fat tax returns are for chumps.

24 years is a good long haul, longer than my time in Austin. It’s little anniversaries like this that make me feel my age. They make me look back across the timeline for visions, sounds, emotions, vignettes of events, among the chaotic threads of change.

Here’s to many, oh so many more.
