Followup to the previous post, after moving the hardlinked file to another folder and waiting for last night’s backup to run, I can confirm that the inode ref count increases as expected.
Before backup, ref count was 43 (that includes the backup from Saturday, which happened before I wrote up that post). This morning, it’s 44, and the file shows as having been moved.
I’m calling this a success.
