The Spirit of The Farm, and the growing family...
The Farm is a collective of writers and artists who want a place to show their works. It is in this spirit that we gather together and celebrate the art, enjoyment, and simple pleasure of writing.
The Farm is looking for good writers, authors, artists, humorists, essayists, jokers, and the like. As a group of writers ourselves, we appreciate having a public place to post our works. The stuff you find at The Farm is all voluntarily submitted; under this ethos, without volunteers, The Farm as it were would not exist. I, as your host, invite you to join us and move in - no one can force you. There's no rent, no charges; it's all FREE.
It's in this light I request that if you do send in something, as a courtesy, please send in a critique to any work posted here at The Farm, either to The Farm, or directly to the author. That's your only obligation.
The Farm accepts short stories, prose, poetry, hiaku, humor, essays, editorials, artwork, images, photography, and anything you'd like to have here. If you have your work posted elsewhere on the Internet and you would like for me to add a link to your site on The Farm's pages, please let me know. I'd be much obliged.
Procedure:
To submit a work for possible posting at The Farm, send in your work according to the guidelines stated below. As a service, you should also critique one work already posted here at The Farm.
When I receive your submission, I'll send you a biographical information questionaire, which you should fill out and return to The Farm. The info contained in your questionaire will be posted on your own personal Resident's page (remember, all answers are optional, so answer only what you want).
When I receive your questionaire, I'll begin work on converting your submission and questionaire to HTML, and link your pages into The Farm. I'll notify you when the work is complete and posted.
Please be reminded that The Farm is my hobby. It may take me a few days to work on moving you in and posting your submission, but I'll get to it. If you feel I'm taking too long, send me a nice reminder either to The Farm (thefarm@dead.mailbox) or my personal address, refwurks@dead.mailbox.
Submission Policies and Guidelines:
As a policy, I ask that you follow these guidelines when you send your works:
- Take the time, if you haven't already, to send a note to the author of any work currently posted here at The Farm. Believe it or not, writers thrive on feedback.
- Provide your real name, plus an optional pen-name or psuedonym, if you wish.
- Provide your correct email address, so I can contact you and send you a Resident's Questionaire, which will appear on your very own biography page. The release of your email address is at your option. The Farm does not sell, lend, or otherwise make available the email addresses of its residents. All works sent without a current, correct email address will be discarded.
- Describe the section in which your work would best fit. This gives me an idea as to where to place your work. Remember that illustrated works like poems and short stories could also be double-linked from the Gallery as well.
- If you have any, give me your comments, suggestions, or any questions you may have. You do have some amount of say as to how your work should be laid out. (Think "collaborate")
- And finally, send your submission. It can either be the complete work, or it may be a link to your work already posted elsewhere on the Internet, if you so choose. I do ask that if you should send a link, please inform me of any situation where the link to your work will become "dead", such as if you move your work to a different URL, or no longer will have that work on the Internet. Multi-part works are acceptable, so long as all parts are parts of one whole work. Please send only one work per submission.
Upon sending your submission, I'll review it for potential posting. Upon acceptance, you'll receive a Resident's Questionaire by e-mail. When you complete and send in the questionaire, you'll receive a notice of when your work is posted, and where you may find it, as well as the URL of your bio page.
These policies apply to all people who submit works for possible posting, including current residents. The only abberation is that Resident's Questionaires will always be sent to those authors who are not residents yet, but have passed the acceptance requirements, based on their work submitted. Only those current residents who request them will receive a Resident's Questionaire should they wish to update the information on their bio page. I request that current residents who wish to do this also send with their request a work to share, but this is only an option.
Layout:
The actual screen presentation will be subject to The Farm's standard layout for the type of work that relates to your submission. All tabs in the text will be converted to spacer images (or "pixel shims") to preserve paragraphing and spacing. Links will be provided between parts for multipart works.
If you have design suggestions or requirements for your submission, please let me know and we can work together on the design.
Copyright:
Your work, both in words and images, will be declared copyrighted to you for the year of submission to The Farm in the footer of the page which contains your work. The layout and associated supporting images will be copyrighted to The Farm, except in cases where the layout and design are a collaboration between you and The Farm. Take a look at our legal disclaimer for more detailed information.
Acceptance:
Our guidelines for submission acceptance are based mostly on the quality of the work submitted for publication, as well as the availability of space in our server account. All submissions will be considered equally for posting at The Farm.
The Farm does not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, race, religion, creed, handicap, shoe size, hair color, or fried egg preference. However, The Farm does reserve the right to refuse the publication of works that are perceived to bring us legal trouble should publication of such works be done, or any work that otherwise smacks of plagiarism. Shame, shame.
Technical:
The Farm has the ability to receive text files, as well as graphic files, HTML, JavaScript, and any other file that can be sent through a mailer that supports "multipart mime types." Any work of text may also include images to be included on that page, but submissions need not require text. But, as a service to The Farm and its readers, any photos and graphic artwork should be provided with descriptions or narrations.
All works submitted for possible publishing at The Farm must be mailed to THEFARM@DEAD.MAILBOX with the the word "Submission" in the subject line. No other email address displayed on any of the pages at The Farm has the authority or power to accept submissions and handle them legitimately.
